The Handshake
Life and Leadership Lessons From a Poor Farm Kid to a Manager in the Oil and Gas Industry
by
Darryl Greening
The Handshake started as a book for the Author’s Children and Grandchildren. The stories and lessons start in the 1960s, with him growing up in rural Saskatchewan, then entering the rough-and-tumble oil and gas industry of the late 1970s, and eventually becoming a manager. It became evident, however, that anyone would enjoy these recollections and lessons captured. The meaning of the handshake, a universal gesture, can vary drastically in other cultures. The handshake lesson captured in the book was one of thousands learned throughout his working career. The stories captured vary from ridiculous, insightful, and sometimes sad. Frontline Leadership, Positional Power vs. Influential Power, Trust and Confirmation, Innovation, the importance of Good Processes, Relationships, Motivation, and more make for a collection of Life and Leadership Lessons From a Poor Farm Kid to a Manager in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Darryl Greening is a retired oil and gas manager and author of The Handshake, a collection of stories and learnings from his early childhood years to 40 years working in the oil and gas industry.
