My Transformation From Trauma To Triumph
A Memoir
by
Gary Forget
My Transformation From Trauma To Triumph, A Memoir chronicles Gary’s transition from a troubled childhood in small-town Ontario. Raised in a large family that struggled with poverty and parental alcoholism, Gary shares how his early experiences shaped his emotional, intellectual and interpersonal development. His memories of his chaotic home haunted him in his relationships, his years at university and in the workplace. As an ACoA (Adult Child of Alcoholics), he brought a unique perspective to his career in Human Resources at major companies where he spent most of his time in leadership positions in manufacturing locations. He learned how to connect, and he provides readers with an “inside look” at the decisions and conversations surrounding the personnel and labour relations issues of that time. Gary's story demonstrates a profound search for belonging, clarity, and emotional stability. Through the narrative, he describes how literature, education, and contact with others gave him the tools to cope, reflect, and eventually thrive. My Transformation From Trauma To Triumph, A Memoir is a testament to the power of resilience and perseverance to find answers and transition from an adult child.
"Gary gave me opportunities to step forward, find my voice, and really focus on my strengths—and that has stayed with me in such a meaningful way. I don’t think I’d be an MBTI Master Practitioner or have the depth of understanding I now have of myself and others, both personally and professionally, without that foundation. Through the workshops I’ve led, I’ve seen firsthand the impact—people having those “aha” moments and sharing how much it’s changed their perspective. Gary has been such a positive influence on my life." —Alison Nolan-Miller Senior People and Culture Partner
Gary lives in Victoria, BC, with his wife, Susan, close to his daughter and her family, which includes two grandchildren. His siblings and son live in Ontario.
