Recovery Doesn't Happen Overnight
A Candid Diary of a Young Woman Navigating Addiction, Depression and Recovery
by
Arlowe Black
After years of suffering from depression, addiction, anxiety, and shame surrounding my sexual identity, I make a desperate move to Western Canada to work with my sister and start a new life. I didn’t know what recovery would look like for me, but I was ready for change. Or was I? Recovery Doesn’t Happen Overnight, which follows The Dark Place, documents a journey of self-doubt, relapse, and emotional unraveling, while at the same time of resilience, courage, and determination. Told through raw, deeply honest journal entries, this memoir is for anyone who is fighting to rebuild their life. Recovery is not a straight path. Sometimes it feels like failure after failure, but recovery is possible. For some of us, it just takes a little longer to find our way.
Arlowe Black is the author of The Dark Place: A Candid Diary of a Youth Navigating Addiction, Depression and Identity. She has always been a writer at heart, although music, animals and nature are other passions of hers. She wishes not too much be revealed about her identity as she is planning to write future books that continue her story.
