At the end of the book, poems of resilience help uplift the reader after an emotional journey. Breaking the silence is always difficult, but opening the conversation is the only way to bring understanding to the long-lasting effects of sexual violence and the common misunderstandings about people who suffer sexual violence as children. Poet Kathleen Rooney originally tackled this heart-wrenching content to break her own silence and with hope for validation from her family. When that didn’t happen, she wrote the ending of the story of “Now what?” so that others in the same predicament would feel less alone.

Kathleen Rooney considers herself an artist in the art of healing. She is a speaker on autism, trauma, regulation strategies, and resilience, and a consultant and trainer with the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute. Kathleen has a BFA and an MEd, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Transformative Leadership and Spirituality. She believes in collecting the skills necessary to use the arts for social change, and her book of autobiographical poetry is only the first initiative of many. Kathleen lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She has two beautiful daughters who are grown and live on their own. Website: apleatoourmother.ca
