I Love You Beyond the Stars
by Dee Appleby

From sailing the Milky Way on a marshmallow boat to digging for fairywinkles in the sand, I Love You Beyond the Stars takes us worlds away on a magnificent adventure. I Love You Beyond the Stars is a whimsical celebration of a childhood by the sea, of the wonders of our galaxy, the limitless imagination of children and of a grandmother’s love “beyond the stars.” The poem explores the galaxy through a child’s imagination, based on adventures Dee has enjoyed with her grandchildren — searching for treasures along the seashore and gazing up at the constellations. She reminds the reader that everything children do is magic. The story will inspire children to find the beauty in nature, to marvel at the night sky and to cherish each moment they share with loved ones. Recommended for ages five to ten, I Love You Beyond the Stars addresses two primary themes — that a child’s imagination is limitless and should be nurtured, and that love is eternal.

Dee Appleby began her career as a French translator, graduating from McGill University in 1980. Dee’s poetry and short stories are featured in the anthology In the Vale (Studio Georgeville, 2022). She also published two books on Nova Scotia artists, From Land and Sea, Nova Scotia’s Landscape Artists (Nimbus, 2009) and its sequel, Nova Scotia’s Contemporary Artists, Volume II (Friesens, 2010). From Land and Sea was presented to international delegates as a gift from the Government of Nova Scotia at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Dee hosted the TV series "The Blank Canvas" which aired on Eastlink Community Television in May 2022 (Skye-Larke Productions). The series features interviews with well-known artists from across Nova Scotia. From 2014–2017, she conducted art history tours to museums in Canada, the US, and Europe, and taught art history through the Seniors College Association of Nova Scotia. Dee lives in Truro, Nova Scotia with Brian, her husband of forty years. She has a natural affinity for the written word and enjoys writing prose and poetry.
