Yuvi is a 10-year-old Indo-Canadian boy with a very special gift: he can talk to animals! Yuvi’s gift gets him into all kinds of trouble, especially when his parents think he’s bringing wild animals into the house. This spring is no different—poor Yuvi is right in the middle of things when Little Bird learns how to fly. The bird sees a scary cat, panics, and accidentally flies right through Yuvi’s open bedroom window! Will Yuvi be able to sneak the bird back outside without getting caught? Will his power get him in trouble once again—or allow him to help the animals of the neighbourhood? Luckily, Yuvi isn’t on his own. He has the help of his sister, Jaz…and of his mother’s super delicious roti!
Pauline Lafond is a writer and retired teacher. She was a trained Reading Recovery Teacher, and taught early and middle years for most of her career. In her later years she went on to administration, eventually rising to become superintendent of a rural school division. Pauline enjoys travelling and spending time at her cabin with family and friends. Her grandchildren are a mix of French Canadian and Punjabi, and speak three languages. The lack of Indo-Canadian representation in children’s books pushed Pauline to finally write a kid’s book, a long-time dream of hers. Pauline lives in Winnipeg, with her husband.
