The Flower Who Dreamed
by
Alicia Chantale Rahier
Imagine if a single act of kindness could help make your greatest dream come true? That is exactly what the flower at the centre of this lovely children’s story discovers when it decides to stop feeling sorry for itself and instead help someone else in need. Stuck in one spot day after day, year after year, the flower is envious of the freedom that all the forest animals and birds enjoy as they come and go throughout the seasons and get to experience the wide, wide world. How the flower wishes it could move around! How the flower wishes it could fly! Only when the flower meets a magical fairy who is also sad and upset, does the flower come to realize that helping others can make you feel better about yourself. Not only that, but those you help, might also turn around one day and help you by granting you your greatest wish.
Living on a large acreage in the area of Prince George, British Columbia has given author Alicia Rahier the opportunity to introduce her young daughter to the beauty and wonders of nature and wildlife. Now Alicia is sharing the joy that her daughter gets to experience daily with young readers everywhere in a new picture book entitled The Flower Who Dreamed—a book about nature, gratitude, kindness, and aspirations. Literacy and education have always been important to Alicia, who is a pharmacist by training, but it is when she first became a mother a few years ago that she fully realized just how much positive imagery and messaging in books can help children develop into kind and compassionate caretakers of the planet and of one another. And that’s just what the world needs!
