The Listener
by Keith Braun

Dareth Hornbow is content to just be a 15 year old growing up in the wild lands of northern Huronis, the son of a healer and a ranger. Fate, however, has other plans for the gifted young man, and in a series of unexpected circumstances he finds himself thrust into the forefront of an international intrigue and looming catastrophe. After 800 years of stability, prosperity, and peace, the Western World is on the brink of war and chaos. The guarantee of the thousand year peace, established long ago by the Eldar, is being threatened and young Dareth finds himself being transformed to take on a role he cannot even imagine. While the Eldar on longer walk in the Western World, their servants, the giant jeweled eagles of the great rift mountains remain – although to many they are only a legend. To Dareth they are creatures of magnificence and wonder, to be glimpsed at from a great distance on rare and awe-inspiring occasions. It is when he comes face to face with these servants of the mystical race of Eldar that his own unique future begins to unfold, and the future of the Western World hangs in the balance.
