CareyOn is the true story of the Carey family, who swapped their suburban home in Toronto for a hobby farm near Orangeville, Ontario in 1975. Told from the point of view of two teenage sisters, Cindy and Natalie Carey, CareyOn witnesses the unravelling of the family in the wake of Natalie’s premature departure, and explores the impact of being abandoned. Written with warmth, humour, and compassion, it is the story of first love, of coping and carrying on in the face of loss, the strength of a family bond that pulls one of its members back home, and ultimately, the power of a family’s love ... to forgive.

Cindy Graves has always enjoyed writing, and after studying the craft and honing her skills—establishing and writing a monthly newsletter in her former role as Executive Director of a charity, and frequently doing business writing in her current role as Director of Advancement with Simon Fraser University—she decided to finally tell this story about a tumultuous phase in her family’s life. Graves has three children and lives with her husband, Geoff, in a heritage house overlooking Vancouver harbour. CareyOn is her first book.
