For Maria
by Lenore MacAdam

Alex Halliday, a Crown prosecutor, is having coffee with her father on a beautiful autumn day in Cork Bay, Ontario. When he is gunned down in front of her, the killer says only two words, “For Maria.” Already devastated by her father’s murder, Alex faces another shock – he may not have been the person she thought he was. Reeling from confusion, grief and anger, Alex is forced to question everything. She puts herself, and her friends, in danger as they try to find answers, delving into government corruption, gang wars and a decades-old secret that Cork Bay has never fully buried. For Maria is a sharp, funny, deeply felt debut about the lies small towns tell to survive — and a daughter brave enough to find out the truth about her father.

Lenore MacAdam spent over thirty years in the corporate world — television production, management consulting, human resources, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Somewhere in there, she picked up an MBA and a deep understanding of office politics, both of which turned out to be surprisingly useful for plotting a murder mystery. After life reminded her rather forcefully that time doesn’t wait, Lenore decided to write the book she’d been carrying around in her head for years. For Maria is the result: a murder mystery that let her explore her lifelong fascination with how the past quietly shapes the present, wrapped around a cast of characters she now loves like family. Lenore is currently working toward a master’s degree in psychology, which she suspects will come in handy for at least one or two future plot twists. She lives in Toronto, where she is already plotting further adventures for her Cork Bay family.
