On Furious Wings
new and selected poems
by
Ulrich Wendt
Erase History if you dare. She returns on furious wings. This remarkable grouping of approachable poems deals with the struggles of ordinary people coming to terms with the forces of history. The author draws on his early experiences as a refugee in post-war Europe, immigration as a child to Canada, and living in a free and welcoming multicultural land that is, nevertheless, rooted in its history of colonialism. The poems tend towards realism, social justice and the wild. Includes the poem "Kanada"
"Ulrich Wendt writes with a vivid and powerful pen. These accessible yet provocative poems evoke the direness of the past and the joy and wonder of human life." JOAN BARIL, Author The Art of Burglary and Luck, Grit and the Power of Love' "It is powerful, terrifying, and multi-layered." SAM BAARDMAN, Artist, about the poem "Kanada"
ULRICH WENDT lives and writes at his berry farm in south eastern Manitoba. His poems are anchored in the northern and western history and landscapes of Canada but also echo the cataclysmic events of midcentury war-torn Europe. His poems have appeared in such magazines as Pennine Platform, Grain, Quarry, Impulse, The Canadian Forum, Axiom, The Squatchberry Journal, Muskeg Review, and in the blog Literary Thunder Bay. His latest publication is the book Wolves on the Road: Words of Land, Love and Loss (2022).
