Memoir of a Bourgeois Hippy
by
Gene Anthony Mascardelli
Memoir of a Bourgeois Hippy is a rollicking coming of age tale chronicling the life of a spunky small town Canadian boy who discovers his bohemian and artistic tribe first in a small record and bookstore in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, then lands in a community of hippies in downtown Toronto. He escapes possible arrest for growing marijuana by jumping on a plane to London where he is hired by music promoters, discovers the rock group Mungo Jerry in a London underground station, helps organize a milestone Hollywood British rock concert festival in 1970 near Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England. He befriends theatre and film producers who craft his quirky persona into a character in a play. His creative endeavors place him in circles of rock and writer creatives, members of The Beatles, The Who, and other artists where his originality and fearlessness demonstrate the power of an individual to forge a fascinating life.
Gene A. Mascardelli is a music consultant, concert promoter and producer who worked as a consultant first in London helping produce the star-studded Hollywood British Rock Concert in 1970 at Newcastle-under-Lyme. In 1973, he returned to North American and founded Famous Artists International and, in 1977, the Rock and Roll emporium "The King of Hearts", a showcase nightclub for original Canadian artists. Mascardelli collaborated on concert events with New York based Giorgio Gomelsky who managed and produced The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds (Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck), John McLaughlin and Julie Driscoll. They co-produced the day long 1979 "Manifestival" in NYC at the Entremedia Theatre and again at Toronto's Convocation Hall (supporting The World Peace Foundation). Mascardelli has represented screenwriters, actors, producers, directors and cinematographers and is a consultant in music and film arts, working with artists, promoters and producers in Canada and around the world.
