Elizabeth Explores Kitchen Science
by Betty R. Robinson

When Elizabeth’s new classmate shares that she has celiac disease, Elizabeth is eager to help. Her solution? Try making something gluten-free! But cooking isn’t always as simple as it looks. With encouragement from her mom and her own determination, Elizabeth learns that mistakes are part of the process and understanding kitchen science helps her improve her cooking. Most importantly, she discovers the value of perseverance: if you keep trying, you can get it right. Full of fun and curiosity, this story introduces young readers to science in the kitchen in a way that’s easy to understand and exciting to explore. With two hands-on activities included, kids can experiment at home and see the science for themselves. Elizabeth Explores Kitchen Science is perfect for readers who love to experiment, get creative, and discover that science is everywhere—even in the food we eat!

Betty R. Robinson has spent much of her career making science engaging and accessible for young learners. As an educational science developmental editor, she has worked on textbooks in physics, chemistry, biology, space, and Earth sciences for the elementary and high school levels. That experience, and her love of sharing how science connects to everyday life, inspired Betty to write science stories for kids. The other books in her Elizabeth series are Elizabeth Goes to Mars!, Elizabeth’s Enlightening Day at the Zoo, and Elizabeth’s First Total Solar Eclipse, which received the 2025 Simon Newcomb Award from The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Each story combines curiosity, fun, and scientific discovery in ways that spark imagination. She lives in Mississauga, Ontario, with her husband of more than forty years; they have one adult daughter, who is also named Elizabeth. Betty spends her free time exploring astronomy, baking, cooking, reading, dancing, and travelling. You can connect with Betty at www.bettyrrobinson.ca or https://linktr.ee/elizabethseries
