Story of Scars
by
Lynn Staffan
How much pain can a person bear and still live to tell the story? If Lynn Staffan’s life is any indication, the answer is too much to count. Raw and unabashedly honest, Story of Scars is a short memoir documenting some of the unimaginable trauma and tragedy author Lynn Staffan has had to endure, and how she came out the other side. From an eating disorder to sexual assault to self-harm, Staffan, who lives with bipolar disorder, among other mental illnesses, does not shy away from some of the darkest and most difficult experiences a person can possibly have to contend with. Told with a great deal of heart and an often black sense of humour, Story of Scars is sure to prove an invaluable source of solace and understanding to anyone who has been to hell and back.
Lynn Staffan is an author who has lived with mental illness her whole life. An avid journaler, she has kept a box of personal diaries over the course of her lifetime, drawing on much of it to compose this, her first book. Outside of writing, she enjoys reading—especially memoirs—as well as a gym-goer, walking her dogs, spending time with family and friends, and playing cards, scrapbooking and building puzzles. She is also an avid marathoner and piano player, and has recently picked up quilting. She lives in Northern Alberta with her two dogs, and her greatest blessings call her “mom” and “grandma.”
