Alex and Little Niko
by Jill Marie Drury

"The ancient Greek definition of happiness was the full use of your powers along the lines of excellence." Athens is the birthplace of democracy and a city of wisdom and innovation. It has an amazing culture combining new and ancient sites to visit, absorb, and inspire. It is a city where meals are worth daydreaming over and unexpected adventure awaits around every cobblestone corner. Exploring the Plaka neighborhood on foot can be an exhausting, but magical, sojourn to the ancient world. As the sun sets every evening on the Acropolis, it is easy to find yourself on a marble step with renewed motivation and contemplating the impact of living among the great thinkers of the City of the Violet Crown. Alex and Little Niko is a whimsical story about a boy who has his own Greek daydream. Alex finds himself accidentally hopping onto a ferry to Athens while chasing his dog, Niko, and the neighbor cat, Roxy. As the ferry departs on its long voyage across the sea, Alex quickly realizes he is stuck and cannot get off! On the way to Athens, Alex closes his eyes and imagines an adventure, with Niko and Roxy curled by his feet. The troika explore the city sites and experience a thrilling adventure -- wandering the winding streets, exalting ancient treasures, and even fighting off mythological creatures come to life! What will happen to the three brave junior Athenians?

Jill Drury developed a love for travel with her history-loving husband, John. Together they would save up money to take adventures around the world to places they daydreamed about while in school. From admiring ancient Moai on Easter Island, to trekking the Inca Trail toward Machu Picchu, to bungee jumping off Kawarau Bridge in New Zealand, Jill and John have experienced the world and absorbed its diversity. The ancient wonders of Greece remain high on Jill’s and John’s top travel adventures. It leaves a deep impression to experience architectural wonders in person that many only see and read about in history books. Plus, sun-drenched islands and sapphire waters tend to tug at your heartstrings! In 2015, Jill and John welcomed John Jr. (“Jack”) into their Empire. At bedtime, a popular request from Jack are stories about climbing the marble steps to the Parthenon and fighting off the legendary Minotaur.
