My Little Bit of Heaven
by
Bukola Adesokan
During pregnancy, each month brings new changes and new feelings. Self-doubt and anxiety can overshadow moments of joy and elation. As the due date looms near, so does uncertainty and fear. Will I be a good mother? Will my baby be healthy and happy? Many expectant mothers feel alone and isolated. But Bukola wants to assure mothers that they’re not alone. They need only to look inward: I feel your embrace in the darkest of night When overwhelmed and sleep eludes. Your twists and turns with lightest kicks, Guiding me on with subtle movements. This sense of companionship is at the very heart of My Little Bit of Heaven. Organized into the trimesters, this collection of illustrations and free verse poetry offers a poem for each month of pregnancy. From changes in the body to the anticipations of what the future will bring, these poems are snapshots into the internal world of motherhood. A place that often feels exclusive, even to those who are members. But these poems welcome readers in with tender, affirming language and acknowledge the quiet dreams and hopes that aspiring and expectant mothers face. They embrace uncertainty to reveal the hidden joy and love underneath. Heartfelt and celebratory, My Little Bit of Heaven is a companion, a gift for aspiring and expectant mothers.
A warm, gentle, heartfelt poem that honor the beauty, hope and the magic of motherhood. Capturing every emotions and miracle along the way.
As a mother of three children, Bukola Adesokan found pregnancy quite challenging. Inspired by its many ups and downs, she wrote My Little Bit of Heaven after conceiving her third child. Bukola lives in Calgary, Alberta, with her husband and three children.
