Jethro Jacks
by
Nicole Julie
Once a playful and friendly neighbour, Jethro Jacks comes back to school one year with a scrappy attitude and a taste for bullying. His loud voice and biting words push away his classmates, leaving him friendless and misunderstood. But one brave student, an old friend of Jethro’s, isn’t ready to give up. Can our hero help Jethro find the kindness at his core? Or will Jethro always be known as the schoolyard bully? With a unique combination of humour, heart, and a magical twist, Jethro Jacks addresses the power of words in a fun, relatable way. Using poetry to craft its narrative, the story encourages children to reflect on the importance of kindness while showing that growth and change are always possible. It reminds us that we can all make a big difference with a few small words.
Nicole Julie has always been compelled to put pen to paper, whether she’s jotting down stories, crafting poems, or writing songs. With a background in English Literature and years of participating in writing workshops and mentorship, she brings heart, humor, and a deep sense of humanity to her work. She has worked in hospitality management for over 20 years and currently serves in the non-profit sector within healthcare hospitality. Her rich experience being around people from all walks of life makes her uniquely qualified to tell stories that resonate with warmth, authenticity, and understanding. Nicki finds joy and inspiration in nature—whether sitting by the lake or snowboarding through the mountains—and loves to travel, cook, and explore, all of which fuel her creativity. She lives in Kelowna, B.C., with her husband, Frank, and son, Oliver, and not far from her daughter, Hailey.
