High School Was for Boys
by
Katie Cowger
This collection of free verse poetry intimately explores the lasting impact of internalized misogyny on women. Through evocative and challenging verses, the poet delves into a series of significant events that unfolded in her own life. She uncovers the profound moments that left an indelible mark on her psyche, and how they continue to ripple forward in her life. From the battleground of adolescence to the complexities of adulthood, High School Was for Boys explores themes of sexuality, toxic female friendships, anxiety, sexual assault, and healing.
Katie Cowger is a poet, author, screenwriter, and lyricist. She began writing lyrics and journal entries as a young child, and has been writing ever since. The poems in High School Was for Boys are a deeply personal account of her own experiences in 2018 and 2019. Katie lives in Vancouver, B.C., with her partner and their cat.
