Leif the Leaf
by Colleen Kelly

Leif has a big heart and dreams of helping others. So one day he leaves the comfort of his tree to set out on an adventure. Leif the Leaf teaches young readers that there is a time for everything—joy and grief included—and that those we hold dear live on in our hearts.

Debut author Colleen Kelly came up with the concept behind Leif the Leaf while stopped in traffic. She observed a leaf fall from a tree and land in a woman’s bag without the woman noticing. From there, Colleen wove in the importance of helping others and having a positive mindset, using the adventures of this little leaf to share these lessons with young readers. Colleen uses the characters to teach children tools for experiencing big feelings and being kind to ourselves and others. Colleen lives in Victoria, British Columbia. She enjoys travelling, reading and spending time with her two dogs.
