The Stories Behind the Songs of Noel Carol
by
eh scharpe
Left Unread: The Stories Behind the Songs of Noel Carol is the poignant and inspirational life story of Noel Carol, narrated by eh scharpe a.k.a. b phlatt, as told through the lens of a lifetime of songs he has written. Growing up in rural Quebec, Noel discovered his passion for music at the age of eight, with dreams of becoming a rock star. However, impulsive choices led him down a tumultuous path marked by addictions and infidelities that led to his marital breakdown, emotional collapse, and eventual homelessness. The deaths of two childhood friends served as a further breaking point, plunging him into even deeper despair. Despite these formidable hardships, Noel composed songs that captured the highs and lows of his journey, providing the foundation for this book. Throughout his trials, he heard an inner voice—believed to be God—that inspired many of his creations, including the song that sparked this narrative. Although he recognized this inner voice as a guiding and protective force, it took him 20 years of resistance before he finally began to surrender to it, embracing his divine purpose with a determination to demonstrate the transformative power of faith. A testament to resilience, faith, and divine love, Left Unread will inspire readers on their life and spiritual journeys, encouraging them to trust in divine guidance as they pursue their dreams and discover their purpose, ultimately leading them toward complete understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and healing.
“Roses in November has had a significant impact on me since the first time I’d heard Noel play it. I’m not a big country music fan – but this song has such a haunting vibe, although I’ve only heard it played in an acoustic way. I’ve told Noel on many occasions that Roses in November would be an ideal song for someone such as Vince Gill to cover.” “I’ve always paid close attention to song lyrics and especially to melancholy ones that tell of love lost or of being hard-gotten. Most people can relate to this type of human struggle. Noel seems to have written these lyrics from a very honest perspective into what he’d gone through. There is something beautiful about the juxtaposition of a rose being given to someone in the coldness of November that I think gives off a slight warmth and leaves the listener on the verge of emotion throughout the entire song. I believe Roses in November would easily become a country hit single if given even a small chance to get out in the world.”
eh scharpe a.k.a. b phlatt, one of Noel’s alter egos, draws readers into the life of Noel Carol in his first book to hit the market. The youngest of nine children, he has always enjoyed writing what’s in his heart. As someone who loves “alone time,” eh scharpe enjoys his tiny home in the countryside, surrounded by mountains, where he spends his days with his companion dog, Georgie. When not playing guitar or writing, he likes to cook, advocate for animals, dream, work with wood, and inspire others to be their best selves.
