Mylo Finds A Friend
by Gale Riding

When Mylo the moose is born, he wobbles on his green legs. He learns how to walk, where to sleep, and what to eat. But when it’s time to meet the other creatures of the forest, Mylo doesn’t fit in. The bird laughs. The bunny scorns him. A herd of moose brothers dislike his green fur and are afraid they’ll turn green too. "Oh, I’m so sorry, Mylo,” says his mother. “For you see, although you are so perfect to me, as you go through life, you’ll find not everybody is always kind.” But when Mylo meets Mandi, she becomes a special friend—someone who will love him just the way he is.

Gale Riding wrote Mylo Finds a Friend to teach kids about bullying. She knows first-hand how hurtful bullying is, and that everyone wants acceptance no matter their differences. The character of Mylo was inspired by a teal green moose that stood out in her son’s stuffed animal collection.
