The world at times seems covered in darkness, but the light we are searching for is within each of us. It has never left us, and never will. Here I Am is an examination of that darkness and light, a poetic revaluation of the mind. Through free verse and rhyming poetry and song, it explores the difficult and complex journey of life, showing the true sense of what it means to be a survivor. How to overcome, and how to find the strength within. We all face periods in our life that make us want to give up. The only chance we have is to reach deep within our souls and discover that we are not alone. This poetry collection gives readers that chance, and holds their hand as they walk the path.
Calvin Brown is a brave new poetic voice, a proudly angry Black man, and a survivor who continues on life's path despite falling down. He began writing poetry to overcome the fears and tragedies he experienced. That journey led him to find the inner voice and spiritual awakening he needed to stand tall in spite of the past. His poems and songs have helped inspire him to defeat many obstacles that have come his way over the years. Brown lives in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. He is divorced, with five children and three grandchildren.
