Bees In My Pockets
by
Joanne Ferster
Steve and Danny, two brothers who are eager to have the adventure of a lifetime hit the ground running when school finishes for the summer. When they investigate a strange buzzing in a nearby field, Steve is stung by a bee, and the boys decide to get revenge. Armed with water guns, they approach the hive hidden deep in the woods. But when they are magically transported inside to meet the queen and see the inner workings of the hive, they reconsider their revenge and work together with the bees to help them with their honey production. Bees In My Pockets is both an exciting and mystical story and an excellent source of information on bees. While children and parents are sure to enjoy this adventure, libraries, schools, farmers, and greenhouses may also be interested in stocking copies of this book to share or sell to young readers who may be passing by. Through fantastical illustrations, dynamic vocabulary, and magical adventures this story explores themes of judgement, empathy and creativity that young readers (and their parents!) will delight in.
Joanne Ferster, a Cochrane, Alberta resident, is first and foremost the mother of two incredible boys. As a graduate of Alberta Arts University, she began her career as a junior graphic designer and ended as the creative director for a large oil company. She was able to travel the world, living for 6 years in Saudi Arabia and 3 years in Jakarta. Her love of photography gave her inspirations for watercolor subjects for portraits, animals from all over the world, scenery and still life. Her lifelong dream of writing and publishing a children’s book can now be crossed off her bucket list.
