Scars and Stars
by Kenneth Thompson

Exploring love, death, grief, life, and cats named Bob, Kenneth Thompson touches on these themes with a deft hand an affinity for rhyme. He offers insightful twists and turns in a manner of just a few lines that allows the reader to relate, sympathize, and reflect on their own personal experiences while enjoying satisfying wordplay and rhyme schemes. Scars and Stars takes the reader on a journey that will make them laugh, cry and, with any luck, make them see that universal experiences and subjective experiences overlap more than they diverge. Intermixed with raw emotion, Scars and Stars sprinkles light-hearted, comedic poems throughout its text only to bring them right back to gut-wrenchingly beautiful displays of human fragility. An unflinching look at what it means to endure the subjective experience without ever becoming banal, Kenneth describes what may seem like personal moments only for them to hit you as if you’ve experienced these forces yourself. You don’t need to be a certain age or demographic to explore love, death, grief, life, or cats named Bob to enjoy Scars and Stars, nor do you need to be an avid reader of poetry. This is a poetry book for people that do not normally read poetry.

Kenneth Thompson is a writer from a small town outside of Toronto, Ontario. He has published two previous books that were a mix of short stories, vignettes, and poems. These two books, To Tell A Tale Or Two and Humor Me, centralized on ironic, comedic, and satirical views on the world while being interlaced with heartfelt expressions of the subjective experience. Kenneth decided to veer away from this type of writing and into more traditional poetical formats after opening a page on Instagram and TikTok that quickly garnered thousands of followers. This led to the beginning of Scars and Stars as it is a collection of all the poems that appeared on these pages as well as plenty others that can only be read exclusively in this piece of work. Kenneth intends to publish more books in the future that are in similar veins as Scars and Stars but does not wish to be limited to this genre. Kenneth has an interest in ironic, comedic, and satirical expressions through the use of poetry and short stories, and does not seek to be pigeonholed into any one genre. Honest expression can be told through many mediums and genres, and Kenneth hopes to explore as many as he can.
