Molly & Winston
A Molly McPherson - 1st Lady Series Book
by Janice McAlpine

First Lady Molly has always been the only dog in the McPherson family, and she likes it that way, but all of that is about to change. When Mr. and Mrs. McPherson decide to foster Winston (a three-legged dog from a local animal shelter) until he can find his forever home, she isn’t quite sure how she feels about it. He seems nice enough, even though his wooden leg (prosthesis) is a bit strange, but she isn’t thrilled with the idea of sharing her family with another dog or giving up her special place at the family dinner table, even for a little while. As they work together to comfort a scared little boy and have fun together at a nursing home, where they meet Biff the therapy dog, she starts to realize that it’s sort of nice to have him around. If only the McPhersons weren’t just his foster family, if only they would adopt him instead, she would always have a brother to share her adventures with! Maybe (just maybe), it could be Molly & Winston … forever!

Author Janice McAlpine has been a professional writer for the better part of two decades, as a newspaper reporter, columnist, and freelancer, and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where she lives with Darrell, her husband of thirteen years. Although she has loved writing since she was a child in Canada, where she was born, her experience as a schoolteacher, and with her own children and grandchildren, inspired her to share her love of animals with a young audience in her Molly McPherson — 1st Lady series of children’s books. With Molly & Winston, the fourth book in the series, she hopes to shine a spotlight on the importance and value of fostering animals in need, even those animals with physical disabilities, as well as the possibility of training our pets to act as therapy dogs for work in hospitals and nursing homes, bringing joy and comfort to people in need. When she’s not writing or working, Janice enjoys reading, camping, and photography.
