The Chair Beside the Bed
by
Myrna L. Brown
IN A SERIES OF INTIMATE VIGNETTES, The Chair Beside the Bed explores the individual experience of death through the eyes of caregivers. Each story in this collection examines a unique journey towards death, showing how a person facing death—and their family—grapples with forgiveness, acceptance, love, and grace. Told from the perspective of hospice nurses, these poignant stories are a guide for everyone who has lost a loved one, and for those living the emotional and spiritual journeys that accompany the end of a life.
Myrna L. Brown worked as a registered nurse in hospice care. Her experiences caring for patients led her to write The Chair Beside the Bed, inspired by her own recollections. She is the author of A People at the Source of a River, Side Effects, A Season of Mists, and Of Unseen Things Above. Myrna lives in Wilmington, North Carolina with her husband, Denis.
