Peli
A Counting Book
by Linda York

PELI is a counting book that, takes place on Pelican Lake, a small Manitoba prairie lake. It is told from the perspective of Peli the pelican. She arrives in the spring and observes life on the lake throughout the summer. In autumn, she joins her family to fly south knowing that she will return again next year. Children will learn to count from 1-10 as they learn about life on Pelican Lake.

Linda York is a retired elementary school teacher. She has taught in rural, urban and northern Manitoba. She and her family have had a cottage on Pelican Lake for 45 years and have delighted in experiencing nature at the lake. Pelican Lake comes by its name naturally as the White Pelican has made it home forever. She originally wrote this book to share with her Grade One class but somehow lost and forgot it until cleaning at the cottage after her retirement. It has been a great retirement project to publish PELI. Pelicans have always been her favorite wildlife creature. She has an eclectic collection of pelicans decorating the cottage.
