Ruby the Hummingbird
by
Jack Sandberg
This is a children's book of a hummingbird's adventure in surviving the winter migration through the help of a friend. It is suited to Christmas reading as Santa Claus makes an appearance at the end of the story. It is written in seventeen short verses, one or two verses to each page with a large coloured illustration of a major theme of that verse to be placed on the facing page.
Born in 1941 in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, I have continued to live there ever since. I earned a teaching degree from UBC with a major in English and enjoyed a career teaching in elementary schools until retirement in 1997. I have five children and step-children, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I have enjoyed using verse to communicate with family and friends during the Christmas holidays for more than the past twenty years. This has become a welcomed, anticipated tradition. The stories are often read aloud on Christmas Eve in our family gathering.
