Hunter's Super Night
by Laurel Ellen

Many of us struggle with anxieties. Tiny owls are no exception. Hunter and his friends each find the excitement of their first “night” at kindergarten overshadowed by fears of inadequacy. Through encouragement from their families, teacher and new friends, the tiny owls discover the gift of uniqueness and that being brave and kind really can lead to a super night!

"A group of tiny owls face their first-day-of-kindergarten fears in this sweet debut from Ellen and Laurice . . . Laurice’s beautifully shaded cartoon illustrations feature a range of owl types — spectacled, snowy, barn, pygmy, and barred — to highlight the owls’ differences and strengths and balance realistic owl features with anthropomorphic expressions. Ellen’s accessible prose is complemented by the rhyming verses seeded naturally into the dialogue, and the refrain will inspire lap readers to join in . . . These charming, differently abled owls give just the right comforting encouragement." -Kirkus Reviews

Laurel Ellen spends most of her time in beautiful British Columbia. A love of memorable books and a desire to share her granddaughter’s artwork fuelled her drive to write a story that would help children through some of life’s scarier moments, while also encouraging them to be kind and loving to others. Laurel has seven uniquely gifted grandkids who have all stolen her heart. Skye Laurice has loved drawing from a very young age (her younger brothers swear they saw “cave paintings” in the womb). Most days you’ll find Skye attached to her drawing tablet, doodling, illustrating, designing and dreaming up new characters, animals and monsters. She also enjoys casual gaming and loves birds!
