Really, Granddad?
by Wayne Sherrard

A young girl climbs up on her grandfather’s knee, looks up at him with her big eyes and says, “Granddad, tell me another story.” And Granddad is happy to oblige. These are the tales of Wayne Sherrard. Some are homespun, workaday little family stories and some are far more dramatic – from encountering the vengeful side of gophers and discovering the personalities of cows to creating a (short-lived) teen pirate radio station and fighting to get maple tree sap. The settings are fascinating rural locations in the Canadian Maritimes, Ontario, Europe, Alberta, and Canada's Arctic. They succinctly capture memorable moments of life for a boy growing up in an air force family during the fifties and sixties and entering young manhood in the 1970s. Really, Granddad? is a collection of fifty very short, highly entertaining, positive stories for both children and adults. This book chronicles the arc of a mischievous little boy to a young man of ethics, and celebrates the power and beauty of family love across the generations.

A Collection of Short Stories about a Canadian Boy Growing Up in the 1950s through the 1970s. "Many nostalgia lovers will enjoy Sherrard’s homespun humor and familiar situations. Who hasn’t heard a tale about a silly boy sticking his tongue on a freezing metal railing? And many people know how pesky—and ridiculously funny—those doggone gophers can be, especially when one chases the family dog. Complete with cute sketches by the author and black-and-white family photographs, these mostly cheerful vignettes feel as comforting as old Reader’s Digest stories about glory days on the farm. Sweet, sentimental slices of simpler times." - Kirkus Reviews

Wayne Sherrard grew up in a Royal Canadian Air Force family and lived on seven different military air bases before he turned eighteen. He became a Queen Scout as a teenager and grew up to become an electrical engineer, which often took him into Canada’s fascinating, beautiful, and unforgiving Arctic. While running a high-tech manufacturing company, he began writing manuals for his products, fell in love with writing, and started to study creative writing and read the great authors. When he’s not writing and reading, he’s painting contemporary art, which you can find at www.waynesherrard.com. Wayne is now retired from engineering and lives in Edmonton, Alberta with his wife and muse Eileen, with whom he shares three adult children and three grandchildren.
