Overtime
by
Mary Worwood
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, or so the story goes. But sometimes there are consequences that follow you home, and every once in a while, they follow you even further — all the way to the thirteenth century! Photographer Lucy Logan and hot shot goaltender Jack Swann never expected to see each other again after their wild night in Vegas, especially after discovering they drunkenly tied the knot. A quick divorce seems like the most logical solution, but fate has other plans! Before they can dissolve their impulsive nuptials, a pair of bizarre accidents catapult Jack and Lucy back through time, to England, during the Middle Ages. Disoriented and desperate to survive, they assume the identities of their medieval doppelgängers, only to find themselves entangled in a dangerous web of treachery and intrigue. With their true identities at risk of being exposed and the threat of war closing in all around them, Jack and Lucy must navigate a world where trust is a luxury and love is a gamble. Even if they manage to stay alive, will they ever find their way back home?
"Overtime is a funny, sexy, time travel adventure. How do you fit a love story, medieval England and hockey in present day Toronto between the covers of the same book? Only one way to find out!" —Ursula Pflug, author of Seeds and Green Music.
As Team Canada battled for Olympic Gold, a book she’d been reading caught Mary Worwood’s attention. It was set in the Middle Ages. What if someone travelled back in time and taught the knights to play hockey? The idea was so ridiculous and humorous that Overtime was born. She wrote the first 50,000 words of the book during National Novel Writing Month, then continue to develop and revise. Having previously written for a string of community newspapers, this is her first novel. Mary is an avid photographer and when she’s not writing, enjoys reading, gardening, boating, skiing, and when she can afford it—traveling. She lives on the Trent River with her husband, artist, Jim Dumka and three cats. She is presently writing her second novel.
