An Irish History explores the issues of marriage, friendship, parenthood, and aging while highlighting the economic struggle and ravages of war that dominated the early 1900s through to the middle of that century. Most of all, this endearing tale builds an intimate and lasting relationship between the reader and the remarkable family depicted on its pages.
Maeve Omstead Johnston began writing in grade school and has since authored five non-fiction children’s books as well as four adult books, including The Gathering Time (poetry and prose, 2010), A Gift of Love (fiction, 2012), and One Man's Story (non-fiction). Stories of her Irish immigrant ancestors, told by her mother and aunts, threaded through her childhood and eventually inspired her to craft An Irish History. The result is an engaging account, grounded in history and glued together with imaginative yet sensitive narrative. A grandmother and great-grandmother, Maeve’s keen interest in nature, people, and the world at large keep her mind alert and her body and spirit healthy. She enjoys swimming, crosswords and sudoku, and speaking at various meetings and functions. She writes and lives overlooking Lake Erie from her home in Kingsville, Ontario.
