The Shutout Girl
by Glenn Parker

Katherine Rollins is a 14-year-old girl with four hockey-playing brothers who are desperate for a goalie on their homemade rink. They bribe Katherine to put on the pads. Surprisingly, her brothers have a hard time scoring on her and find this both puzzling and frustrating. Katherine falls in love with goaltending and especially enjoys frustrating her tormenting brothers. She can hardly believe how good she has become in such a short time and has the opportunity to play on the same team as her brother when their regular goalie is injured. Katherine’s mother is not happy about her daughter playing against boys who are much older and larger than she is. However, she is able to win her mother over and goes on to succeed beyond her wildest dreams doing something that she both loves and finds challenging and satisfying.

She wants to play against the guys...but is she good enough?
