Reboot Required
To Recover Our Humanity
by Penny Gumbert

Reboot Required offers a penetrating look at the issues that make us less happy today in spite of so-called social and economic development. Written by octogenarian Penny Gumbert, this book explores how we can reverse the current trend and become a more content and empathetic society. With a focus on Canada and its notable drop in the happiness of young people, Gumbert explores: • The overuse of screens and social media • The loss of unstructured play • Chronic absenteeism in schools • Empathy fatigue • Global inequality and the domestic gap between rich and poor • Environmental degradation and environmental angst Drawing from the wisdom of the brightest minds in education research, psychology, and social economics, Reboot Required closely examines the ways in which we are no longer progressing toward a healthy society. And yet, Gumbert charts a path forward and gives readers inspiration to take meaningful action in their personal lives and communities.
