The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ starting quarterback was proven prophetic on Nov. 16, 2025, when he earned Grey Cup MVP honours after guiding the Green and White to a 25-17 victory over the Montreal Alouettes at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg. The fifth championship-game victory in Roughriders history capped a 193-day journey that began with rookie camp in Saskatoon on May 7. Although the season peaked with the Grey Cup win, the celebration was just beginning. The Roughriders touched all corners of the province during the Grey Cup Community Tour, sharing the trophy with fans far and wide. Rob Vanstone, Senior Journalist and Roughrider Historian, joined the team in 2023 after spending 37 years at his favourite newspaper (the Regina Leader-Post). Born and raised in Regina, Vanstone’s love of the Roughriders dates back more than 50 years. He has a close connection to all five of the team’s Grey Cup victories — having written a book about the 1966 team and attended the 1989, 2007, 2013 and 2025 championship games in person. This is the fourth book about the Roughriders written by Vanstone, whose home team consists of his wife (Chryssoula) and their delightful dog, Candy.
