MacPherson's Dolor
by
Jane P.M. Richardson
Tom (Mac) MacPherson has retired from his career as a biologist and his life in the city to move to the West Coast, where he spends his days with his dog, Buddy, and the memory of his late wife, Grace. Tom has successes: he built his own beautiful house, he is a successful bronze sculptor, and he is well-liked among the locals. And yet, Tom is lonely. While his friends Chris and Allie travel the world, living lives full of adventure, Tom sits at the local pub and enjoys his simple life. But, when Tom catches sight of the beautiful Neila, he is thrust into an adventure he did not ask for. Neila and her mysterious partner, Berndt are new to town. While Mac is instantly attracted to Neila, he forms an immediate detestation of her partner and takes advantage of the fact that Berndt is often away to get closer to Neila. They spend their days together, walking their dogs along the beach, and bonding over their shared love of art. Berndt is a dangerous man, but Mac does not heed caution. Soon he finds himself at the centre of a suspenseful mystery involving fake identities, disappearances, and murder. Mac is in over his head. As he plunges to rock bottom, he will need to discover his inner strength and accept what truly matters before it is too late.
Jane (Walden) Richardson is inspired by her own adventures and accomplishments. She has worked as an artist (painting and weaving) for over fifty years, exhibiting her work locally and in New York. Jane is a retired high school teacher, college lab instructor, and professional biologist. Her work and travel to New York, Guatemala, and around Europe, as well as her love for the Sunshine Coast, inspired the vibrant settings found in MacPherson’s Dolor.
