Flat Circles, Sharp Edges
A Collection of Poetry
by
Daniel Zuwala
Weaving through various themes, experiences and anecdotes, this debut collection dwells in both the abstract and the mundane, the ordinary and the divine, the universal and the personal. What does it mean to be human? What is the space beyond a mother’s love? And how far does memory run in either direction along the timelines we construct for ourselves? As with many such questions found within, the act of seeking is the point, rather than finding a conclusion. At first glance, circles aren’t flat and don’t have edges, yet nevertheless beauty persists, sharp as a papercut. Here we find ourselves again, vulnerable to the slashing repetition of our days, our habits, and the millennia that keep tumbling by on the rollercoaster of the universe. Pull up a chair and start throwing out some answers that deserve questions … Flat Circles, Sharp Edges is for the hopeless optimist living way down deep inside of you, for the romantic pessimist that keeps you alive, and for your neighbour. Like many things, it is best enjoyed with a sunset and a scotch.
Daniel Zuwala is a father and lifelong bibliophile with a deep love for the natural world. Along with camping, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities, he enjoys golf, curling, yoga, and playing chess.
