Offering a who’s who of Canadian politics, he describes his legal practice and tenure as Deputy Minister of Labour during Ontario’s turbulent ’70s and ’80s, his subsequent appointment as Ontario’s Agent General to the Asia-Pacific region, and his later period as Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade, and Technology. The book finishes with commentaries on selections of his published pieces from the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, and the Hamilton Spectator on issues that continue to impact Ontario and Canada today. Filled with case studies, personal anecdotes, and fascinating details of closed-door negotiations, this book sheds light on an important part of Ontario /Canadian history and its promise for the future.
Tim Armstrong, KC, O. Ont., born and raised in Toronto, is a graduate of UTS, Victoria College (University of Toronto), and Osgoode Hall Law School. Following a successful legal practice, he was appointed Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Labour, a post he held for ten years before being named Ontario’s Agent General for the Asia-Paci c region. Upon his return to Canada, he resumed his work at Queen’s Park as Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade, and Technology. Retiring from public service, he continued to be active in his legal practice and to receive a number of important governmental assignments. He is the recipient of the Klaus Woerner Hall of Fame Award, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award, and the Order of Ontario, Ontario’s highest civilian honour. Now retired, he lives with his wife, Betty, in Toronto.
