As we get older, it seems like there is no shortage of challenges we must face. Increasing stress at work, caring for aging parents, or supporting loved ones—the list can feel endless. At times we are so focused on others, we sometimes neglect ourselves. We forget to appreciate the world around us, nature, the people who support us and the meaningful impact we have on our world. In Searching for Meaning Through Reflections on Life, poet Jessie Bissoon turns to the mysteries of the universe, that can give us strength and hope during times of despair. These free verse poems echo the spontaneity of nature while encouraging us to return to it. They also remind us that while the physical world can restore us, we must restore it as well. For centuries, we’ve eroded the earth. If we continue on this path, what will be left? And if there’s nothing left, what will help heal us? Jessie Bissoon has worked for over thirty years as a family and marital therapist. Inspired by his work as well as his mother’s dementia and his partner’s depression, Jessie wrote Searching for Meaning Through Reflections on Life. This is his first book of poetry. He hopes that his poems will encourage others to find hope and persevere in difficult times. Jessie lives in Winnipeg with his spouse and their dog, Charlie.
