Recognizing Grace
by Ellie Enns

Recognizing Grace is the moving life story of one woman’s unconditional love and sacrifice, and it’s a powerful testimony to the provision of God. As a pediatric nurse, mother, wife, and foster parent to two special-needs children, Ellie Enns is often brought to her knees and into the pages of her Bible to encounter the living God through Jesus Christ. Through her many challenges, she learns to depend on her Saviour and draw on her faith on a day-to-day basis. Through her job, Ellie comes into contact with two long-term pediatric hospital patients, Jenna and then Shawna, whose parents lived in Northern Canada and can’t care for their daughters’ highly complex medical needs. Moved by love and the Holy Spirit, Ellie and her family bring these girls into their home and provide them with a family, socialization, and as “normal” a life as possible. But ongoing medical crises threaten the lives of the girls and the stability of the family, forcing everyone to turn to the miraculous power of God. Even in their deepest grief, the family finds comfort in Him. A beautiful, authentic tribute to the joy, challenges, grief, and healing involved in fostering high-needs children, Recognizing Grace will inspire and give hope to readers who are searching for miracles and grace in their lives. Through the heartwarming story of Jenna and Shawna, Recognizing Grace witnesses to the reality that Jesus is real and miracles do happen!

Ellie Enns worked as a pediatric nurse for over forty years, spending all but two of those years in an ICU/extended ICU setting. Both of her foster children came from the ICU, and in her first book, Recognizing Grace, she tells their story and bears witness to the power of God in their lives. Although raised in church, Ms. Enns 's faith didn’t start to grow until she began the fostering journey. Today, she volunteers at her home church and leads a ladies’ Bible study there. Ms. Enns is retired and lives close to two of her children and their families.
