Over thirty-five years of treating animals in Seattle and all across Western Canada has given Michael High more than a lifetime of stories. He has worked with hilarious, challenging and tender animals, all of whom have left an impact on him. From being a new graduate on Vancouver Island doing everything for the first time to that period near retirement in Seattle doing everything for the last time, Michael High shares the lessons he learned from his animal patients about happiness, success and failure, and what’s important in life—lessons he sometimes learned well after their treatment. Rear View Wisdom isn’t just an insight into a veterinarian’s daily life; it shares the lessons Michael has learned from his patients that apply to every part of living.

Michael High has worked as a veterinarian in tiny clinics and large hospitals, small towns and big cities. He has treated pets, large animals, and wildlife. He is part of both the Canadian and American Veterinary Medical Associations. He is grateful to have loved his career from start to finish, and he wants to pay that love forward: he has acted as a coach and mentor for dozens of younger vets and now writes to share his stories over thirty-five years in the practice. Michael hopes that his stories can guide new veterinarians, pet owners with any experience, and students considering a career with animals.
