Grandma and the Internet
The Smart TV
by Lori Taetz

Grandma is grumpy! After receiving a large box with her new Smart TV, she soon learns that setting it all up isn’t as easy as she thought it would be. There are visits to the internet store, error messages, long phone calls, and several other frustrating things that have to be done before Grandma can sit down on her fluffy blue chair and watch TV with her granddaughter and their little dog. But after a week of activities, they discover a special secret. Maybe that TV isn’t so smart after all!

Yep. The struggle is real. I love how creativity and imagination sneak in to win the battle of “What should we do now?” Mrs. Taetz skillfully tucks literary devices alongside the powerful message of what it means to be “Smart”. Well done. Be smart, turn off your device, and go play! Love it!! - Cheryl Ruhnke, Preschool Educator – Snohomish School District Lori Taetz is a talented writer who, because of her vast experience working with children, is able to tell a story that children of all ages can enjoy. Her story about the smart TV is creative and fun. The reader can engage in problem-solving and embrace the notion that there is so much more to do in the world than merely watching a smart TV. Readers will enjoy the adventure of getting the technology to work while engaging in a well-written and humorous story. - Sue Saip, Elementary School Principal – Prince George School District, M.Ed. in Counseling
