The Tale of Sophie J. Sparkle
by Marjana Maisha

Sophie is an imaginative little girl who loves to read. One day, she has to go to the hospital for a rare condition called Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The hospital can be a lonely place, and she worries she won’t even be able to read her beloved books. Little does she know that magical companions from unexpected places await her there ... The Tale of Sophie J. Sparkle follows Sophie as she discovers the importance of courage, friendship, and kindness in challenging times, with the help of imagination and a little magic. Illustrated in colour throughout and dedicated to all “courageous young warriors battling illness,” wherever they may be. The Tale of Sophie J. Sparkle is the first children’s book to introduce Stevens-Johnson syndrome. It includes a fact sheet for family members and other caregivers.
