Drowning In Your Sleep
by
Donna Galloway
It’s the year 2031, and crime rates have skyrocketed. The prison system is wildly over-populated—leading to horrifying innovations—and in Washington, DC, a serial killer is on the loose with a vicious imagination and a personal vendetta against one man: Detective Jack Favro. Favro will have to battle his own demons if he’s to have any hope of catching Cyrus, who has already tortured and killed multiple women, taunting the police, and Favro in particular, every step of the way. If Detective Favro could just catch him, Cyrus would be the perfect candidate for the newest thing in incarceration technology, the Narcoleptic Sleep Tank, which allows the overworked and financially struggling prison system to house many more prisoners, at minimal cost, as they sleep away their sentences in chemically induced NREM sleep … where night terrors reside.
Author Donna Galloway has struggled with night terrors and PTSD for much of her life and has come to fully understand the importance of talking openly about these and other mental-health struggles, and actively seeking help. Drowning in Your Sleep is not only Donna’s first novel but a work of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, capturing in print one of her own night terrors—one that has haunted her for many years. In this effort, she hopes to raise awareness and understanding of both Night Terrors and PTSD, to reassure other sufferers that they are not alone, and to encourage them to come out of stigma’s shadow and finally seek the help they need. Being a very spiritual person, a large portion of the “hard to write” parts of Donna’s book were written while she was on silent retreats at St. Benedict’s Monastery, where she was able to cohabitate with the older nuns and spend time reflecting in their chapel. Donna enjoys taking in nature whenever she gets the chance, despite a number of physical challenges that often keep her largely housebound. When she is not writing, she enjoys art, jewelry-making from the 1400s to the 1900s, and helping the elderly in any way she can. She currently lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her husband, John, and their two cats, Abby and Yogi.
