You Did What?
The Unusual Musical Odyssey of Burl Ronald Brinnon
by Ron Brinnon

At the fresh age of fifteen, Ron Brinnon launches his professional saxophone career and plays gigs that land him amid a hotbed of Russian missiles, an FBI chase, and a levitation session with Depak Chopra. Performing for greats like Desi Arnaz, Liza Minelli and Henry Mancini, his ultimate dream is to jam with the Tonight Show Band. A rare embouchure problem keeps that goal always one measure away. Follow part one of the upbeat, unpredictable score of Ron’s extraordinary life.

"Some parents want their kids to grow up to be doctors and lawyers. When Ron picked up the sax at age eleven, his parents cheered him on. And he soon became a shining star. This book is a tribute to his talent and umph!" —Ms. Lynnie Leopard, lead singer of "Mission" and "Columbia Recording Artists," Columbia, SC “To paraphrase the poet Yeats, ‘Who can tell the musician from the music?’ To know Ron Brinnon is to encounter a musician who is both gifted and gifting. One who gives to others what God has given him through the gift of music and words. The world and I say, ‘Thank you, Ron. You did What?!’” —Bill DuBose, fellow musician, band-mate, mentee "This is a wonderful account of the life and times of career musician Ron Brinnon, his band mates, musical artists they interacted with, and the many colorful club owners and sideline characters they met along the way. My only warning is to make sure you have a block of time. You will not want to put this one down." —Goeffrey Chambers, Attorney Former Assistant Attorney General for the State of South Carolina

Ron Brinnon, professional musician hailing from Sandusky, Ohio, has been wielding his saxophone for over seventy years. He attended Berklee School of Music and has garnered on-the-job expertise from many renowned artists. With a lifetime of touring Florida, the South and Midwest, it is no wonder that Ron has a story to tell that covers the thrilling, yet hazardous terrain of the pop and jazz landscape, chronicling major mid-century events as he journeyed. In addition to music, his later years included internet merchandising and the acquiring of four lovely stepdaughters with his late wife, Ann. Living in South Carolina with his first daughter, Sheryl and two cats, Ron still treats audiences to the sultry sounds of his sax playing in local small groups and big bands.
