Possomblossom and Very Brave Ellis
by Sara Atkins

Ellis loves to visit Grandma's island picking blueberries, exploring the islands of the Archipelago in her kayak, seeking adventure. One day, while looking for a baby possom, Ellis finds a beautiful rock that seems to jump into her hand. When it vanishes, Ellis starts to think there might be more to the red rock than meets the eye. It just might be… an egg! On her birthday, the egg hatches and Ellis meets the magical unicorn inside. Together with Possomblossom Ellis pushes herself to learn fast and be brave so that she and her little sister are always ready for the next adventure. With a little science and a sprinkle of magic, Possomblossom helps the girls to discover a world of real, amazing creatures. Hop on with the sisters as their adventures begin! Possomblossom and Very Brave Ellis is the first book in the Possomblossom series. The books encourage children, especially girls, to pursue an interest in science and the environment while having some magical escapades. Endangered species need help, and children can make a lasting difference when they’re inspired and having fun.

Sara Atkins spent thirty years working as a freshwater biologist in Canada's far north, and prairie provinces. She went on to become a science teacher and later a public educator on health and environment, and advocate for the national parks. Sara has been a storyteller since she was a child, creating whimsical and educational puppet shows and story times in elementary schools and her neighbourhood. Now that she has four outdoorsy and delightfully curious granddaughters, she started to write and illustrate fun and educational books to encourage their love of science and the environment. In her free time, Sara loves travelling, canoeing and nature walks, creating art of many different media, and reading. She lives with her dog, on an island in Ontario.
