Ashes of Innocence
A Poetic Journey Through Shadow & Light
by MJ Bear

All our perspectives come from light and shadows. What lies in the darkness, hidden from our understanding? What might a sudden light reveal? The answers to such questions are as changeable as the seasons, but giving them voice has always been the purview of poets . . . their offered insights directly impacting how we perceive the world around us and our own place within its vastness. Ashes of Innocence: A Poetic Journey Through Shadow & Light is a poetry collection that speaks to all of that and more, examining all of life’s vagaries—its loves and losses, blessings and curses—through the pebbled glass of the author’s own lived experience, and with insight, vulnerability, and humour. With its mature and relatable prose, clever rhymes, and deeply impactful imagery, this is a collection that will speak meaningfully to its readers, encourage them to delve deep into life's shadows, and to emerge, changed and reinvigorated, into the light.

Author MJ Bear has always been drawn to poetry, “painting pictures” with his words, using both the joyous and the darker moments of life as his medium. Through this collection of poems, his purpose is to inspire hope and help lift those burdens from the shoulders of others, reminding them that they need not be alone. Not in their joy. And not in their sorrow. A graphic designer for the past twenty-five years, MJ currently lives in Foothills, Alberta, with his lovely wife Kendra, and three kitties.
