Panic at Camp Sunshine!
by
Elaine Armstrong
Amy is eight years old and looking forward to summer vacation, until one day, she hears her parents talking about sending her to summer camp for a week. The idea makes her nervous right away, but with her parents’ and best friend’s support, she musters the courage to attend Camp Sunshine. But a week away from her parents and friends soon turns from exciting to anxiety-inducing. Faced with new and unfamiliar situations, will Amy be able to face her fears, make new friends, and become braver than ever before while she’s alone at camp? Amy Has Anxiety: Panic at Camp Sunshine! is a heartwarming story about a young girl handling her anxiety and the friends she makes along the way.
Elaine Armstrong is passionate about teaching children and encouraging them to meet their fullest, happiest potential. She taught special education in the Quebec primary school system until she moved to Ottawa, where she held piano lessons for children. She has also edited children’s stories for Kids Netword in Toronto and worked with children who submit short stories for their yearly competitions. She has experienced generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) since childhood, and so she has always tried to create environments where children could learn and play without the anxieties of schoolwork, bullying, and other forms of unease. With her personal experiences and those of the children she has nurtured over the years, she wrote Amy Has Anxiety: Panic at Camp Sunshine! to show children who also struggle with GAD that they are not alone, and that anxiety is manageable. Elaine lives in Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband, daughter, and son. In addition to her degree in English Literature, she continues her studies by taking online courses whenever possible.
