Heaven Bound?
by Harold J. Reid

Heaven Bound? is two books in one. First, it is a story of a middle-aged man who commits a minor offence, and is sentenced to serving a certain amount of community service hours reading to seniors in a retirement home who have trouble seeing. At the home, he strikes up a friendship with a female senior. As the story progresses, they bond, and she becomes the mother he never had, and he becomes the son she always wanted. As their relationship grows, a void in each of their lives is filled. By the end of the story, will we find one alive and one deceased, or perhaps both deceased, and those left behind discussing the reasons why they believe they are heaven bound. You'll find out when you get to the end of the book. Secondly, Heaven Bound? contains twenty-one short stories that the gentleman in the story reads to his female senior when he comes to visit. These stories will appeal to young adults and seniors alike. The types of stories are: drama, suspense, mystery, and lots of humor. The two main characters discuss the stories after each reading, and find out that they are not just entertaining, but there are lessons to be learned that will help them (and us) become better living people. These short stories will appeal to those who don't like long stories, and have trouble keeping track of the plot, and all the characters in it.

Harold J. Reid, his wife Judy, and their two children started attending The Salvation Army corps (church) in Jackson's Point On. Canada in 1976. They still worship there as of 2023. Harold was involved in youth work for thirty-four years, CCM for forty-one years (visiting and doing meetings in retirement homes, and homes for the physically/mentally challenged), and CSM (Corps Sergeant Major) for twenty-six years. As the chief local officer for spiritual work, he often taught the doctrines of The Salvation Army to others (which includes the message of salvation through faith in Jesus as our personal Saviour). Putting this message in his book, came from attending countless funerals over the years. Over and over, he witnessed family and friends believing their loved one had gone on to a better place. He hoped they had as well, for only God knows the heart of the deceased, but it is not what we think, but what God says, he thought, and he wanted to convey in this book what the Bible says about the way to heaven. The rest (the majority) of his book is fiction and includes a variety of twenty-one short stories. His desire to write short stories comes from his love of the short stories of his favorite author Thomas Hardy. Harold has two other published books, Just By Chance....or does everything happen for a reason? and a sequel - Everything Happens for a Reason....or does everything happen just by chance? Both books are light, dark humour.
