The monkey says no because snakes have scales, and the monkey does not have friends with scales. Titus is sad and discouraged but he doesn’t give up. He next asks a bird, a turtle, and a river otter if they would be his friend. Will they accept him for who he is? Or will their differences get in the way of new friendship? Titus Wants a Friend gently teaches young readers about empathy and perseverance as they follow Titus through the Amazon jungle, meeting different creatures and learning about what makes each one different—and uniquely special, just like Titus the snake.
Samantha Schellenberg is an artist who loves snakes. She lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her friends, Moose, the cat, and Merv, the bird.
